Using 6.2.0, for LOPTICS=.TRUE. calculations using ISMEAR=-5 and ISPIN=1, the dielectric function outputs are doubled compared to a run with ISPIN=2.

There is an example:

which are twice of the values of ISPIN=1.

Inputs and outputs files are attached.

Having looked at the code, I think this is probably caused by the duplicated-introduction of the spin degeneracy factor in the the epsilon routine used for the tetrahedron method in linear_optics.F90.

Thank you for reporting this to us. I could reproduce this issue and will investigate further.

We have implemented a fix for this, which will be released with VASP 6.3.

For the time being, we suggest using a different ISMEAR or manually removing the duplication of RSPIN from the source file.

Could you please confirm in VASP 6.2.0 (before any patch for this), which ISPIN gives the correct result?

I have done some additonal cross-checking with VASP5 + ISMEAR=-5/0 and VASP6 + ISMEAR=0 , which seems to suggest the ISPIN=1 + ISMEAR=5 in VASP6 is the correct one. (e.g. ISPIN=2+ISMEAR=-5+VASP6 gives halve of the result).

The results were correct for ISPIN=1 or LNONCOLLINEAR=.TRUE. but wrong for ISPIN=2.
